A Southwest-Inner City community in Calgary, Altadore is located between 14th Street and Crowchild Trail bordered by Elbow River and River Park to the Southeast. The Marda-Loop Business Revitalization Zone is located within the community, along 33rd and 34th Avenue in SW.
How is the Real Estate here?
Established in 1945, with the name that has no clear origin, Altadore is said to be named after a mansion County Wicklow, Ireland. Or It may have been a portmanteau word whose first part derive either from “Alta”, the old abbreviation of Alberta, or “alta” for high (the neighborhood being on a hill), and whose second part was derived from “dore”, a version of the French “d’or”, or “of gold”.
As of 2006. the neighborhood has reached a population of 8,175 already. Almost 38% of the buildings here are condominiums and apartments. 41% of the properties is used for renting.

Altadore is tagged as one of the best neighborhoods in Calgary. This inner city community offers great shopping and recreation experience. Marda Loop. one of the busiest outdoor shopping areas in Calgary, is just at the northern border of Altadore. It has more than 125 independently owned stores offering everything you need from groceries, supplies, boutiques to pubs, restaurants and even bike shops, ice cream parlors and pet shops!
Having a village-like feel and lots of open spaces, Altadore will definitely make any resident amused with all the opportunities it provides for relaxation, recreation and socialization. Three amazing parks are located near the southeastern corner of the community, the Sandy Beach, River Park and Glenmore Athletic Park. No wonder residents got the bragging rights of having the best spot to begin rafting down the Elbow River in the summer!
Altadore is also amazing with it’s vibrant party and cultural scene. Events such as Marda Loop Justice Film Festival and Marda Gras that attracts 35,000 Calgarians every year happen in the streets of Altadore. This gives a great cultural texture to the community and a wonderful experience to residents and visitors alike.
What school my kids can go to?
The community of Altadore being served by two schools operated by Calgary Board of Education, the Altadore Elementary and Dr. Oakley School.
